Plain rice

Here's a basic and foolproof recipe for perfectly cooked plain rice, ideal as a base for curries, dals, or stir-fries.

---

๐Ÿš How to Cook Plain White Rice

(Serves 2–3)

---

Ingredients:

1 cup rice (preferably basmati or any white rice variety)

2 cups water

1/2 tsp salt (optional)

1 tsp oil or ghee (optional, prevents sticking)

---

๐Ÿ”ช Prep:

1. Rinse the rice 2–3 times in water until the water runs mostly clear. This removes excess starch and prevents it from becoming sticky.

2. Soak rice for 15–20 minutes (optional but recommended for fluffy grains). Drain before cooking.

---

๐Ÿณ Stovetop Method:

1. In a pot, combine:

1 cup rinsed rice

2 cups water

Salt and oil (if using)

2. Bring to a boil on high heat.

3. Once boiling, reduce to low flame, cover with a lid, and simmer for 12–15 minutes, or until water is fully absorbed and rice is tender.

4. Turn off heat and let it rest for 5 minutes (covered).

5. Fluff gently with a fork before serving.

---

๐Ÿš Tips for Perfect Rice:

Use a 2:1 water-to-rice ratio for most white rice.

For basmati, soaking helps with longer, separate grains.

Do not stir rice while it cooks — this breaks the grains and makes it mushy.

---

๐Ÿ”„ Alternate Methods:

Pressure Cooker:

1 cup rice + 1¾ cups water.

Cook for 1–2 whistles on medium heat. Let pressure release naturally.

Rice Cooker:

Add rice and water in a 1:2 ratio.

Press "Cook" and wait till it switches to "Warm." Rest 5 minutes before serving.
