plain paratha
Here’s a basic Paratha recipe — soft, flaky, and delicious Indian flatbreads perfect for breakfast or lunch. This is the plain version, but I can also give you stuffed versions (like aloo, paneer, or methi) if you'd like!

Plain Paratha Recipe (Serves 2–3, makes 6 parathas)
Ingredients
For the dough:
2 cups whole wheat flour (atta)
1/2 tsp salt
Water (as needed to knead)
1 tsp oil or ghee (optional, for softness)
For cooking:
Ghee or oil (for frying)
---
Instructions
1. Make the Dough:
In a large bowl, mix flour and salt.
Gradually add water and knead into a soft, smooth dough.
Add a tsp of oil while kneading (optional).
Cover and let it rest for 20–30 minutes.
2. Roll the Parathas:
Divide dough into 6 equal portions.
Roll each into a ball and flatten slightly.
Dust with flour and roll into a 6–7 inch circle.
For layers: fold into a square or triangle and roll again (optional).
3. Cook the Parathas:
Heat a tawa or flat pan on medium-high heat.
Place rolled paratha on the hot pan.
Cook for 30 seconds until bubbles appear, flip.
Apply a little ghee or oil on the cooked side. Flip again and repeat.
Press edges gently to ensure even cooking.
Cook until golden spots appear on both sides.
4. Serve Hot:
Serve with curd, pickle, butter, or a side of sabzi.
